Title: 1969 early shelby wheels?
Post by: 1970shelbyguy on September 05, 2014, 05:05:34 PM
i purchased a set of four 69 shelby wheels probably 3 yrs ago. advertised as  "early-recalled "wheels.   well they look like early ones- actually one has rivets but other three have no welds or rivets  spokes have a satin finish and have rounded edges not like the repos that have a tell tale sharp edge . chrome is still in pretty good shape but they do have some hazing.  where the center is pressed to outer wheel i do see some "squeeze out" of some kind of adhesive i suppose.  what is your opinion?  i'll post a few pics.  BTW  thanks for the deck lid wiring info

The early pre recall wheels are the ones without the rivets. They were pressed in and epoxy added strength. From the pics the early ones  are very corroded and are most likely junk . Use at your own risk. The corrosion gets in between the rim and the aluminum and compromises the pressed in seal. You could be driving and they give way because of the weaken state and you have catastrophic failure. The ones with rivets are the later style .
