Title: interior door paint pictures
Post by: emptys on October 03, 2014, 02:26:59 PM
Done some searching, but i'm having trouble finding good shots of how paint was applied on interior standard doors,  esp where the body color ends   I've found some information about 68's but not quite what i'm looking for on 69 doors.

Anyone have some good shots of what the painted door looks like, especially showing where the body paint ends?

(69 gt, dearborn 10/68 build date, btw, in  wimbledon white)

First remember that the interior color (like other years) was applied first then the exterior color was applied with a mask over the area they wanted to remain painted interior color

Not a ton of examples (like other details, years and models) but this should help

So looking at the files we got luck and found two examples with a couple of angles and it confirms that at least one painter was doing things differently from later in the year.

No good clear of the leading edge but would think its a striaght line to the door edge behind the weatherstrip.

Bottom is as expected about 1" or so away from the weather strip retainer

Rear edge (ignore the chip in the one example) like the front. Straight top edge - back to behind the weatherstrip

I'm not seeing any seam sealer of the door where the outer skin gets folded over -- all the examples i have don't have any sealer there; am i seeing that correctly?

Its typical not to see any on the outer surface
