I believe bare cast aluminum would be typical.

Cast iron bellhousings were used on trucks.

Yes the C5TA-6394 was used on trucks and 69 351W manual trans. The 69/70 GT350's that I have seen had a cast iron bell housing .

Yes, mine is cast iron. Would it have been installed before the engine was painted? If so, would it just have overspray or solid blue?

Unlike FE's I've not seen or collected any pictures showing paint on a 69 small block manual transmission bell housing though, since they are cast iron rather than aluminum often they are fairly rusty

On the manual transmission 69-70 gt350's I have had none have had paint on the cast iron bellhousing, engine plate was painted ,except for where starter mounts.

Thanks for more confirmation . It was just what was needed. I suspected as much but was second guessing myself. I know of your expertise and constant search for original 69 /70 Mustang/Shelby details and consequently your observations and opinion carries considerable weight in my book.
