Differences between 67 390 mustang and 67 cougar driveline
« on: July 19, 2015, 10:28:54 PM »
Were there more than just a 3" longer drive shaft ? My first thoughts are the engine , transmission, and rear axle parts were the same, at least cars  from the same assembly plant.

Yes, longer drive shafts due to the longer wheel base, between Cougar and Mustang.

For 1967, 8 inch and 9 inch rear axles are the same between Cougar and Mustang. Cougar are all 5 lug though, no 6 cylinder engines in Cougars. Some rear (and front) suspension components are different on a Cougar, but the rear axles assemblies are the same.

............. from the same assembly plant.

Since Cougars were only built at one plant that year ir narrows it down a bit - but all the different things already mentioned especially the wheel base make the difference

I understand the rear springs are longer or are they, but what would not be the same for the front end ? For instance are the front spring ratings and the spring its self the same say for a 390 with air and power steering mustang and a cougar with the same options ?

Yes, Dearborn only for 1967 Cougars.

I know that they shared the same coil springs, not sure if the list of options for spring selection are the same.

1967 Cougars used 'articulated' strut rods. 1967 only, not one of Ford's better ideas. 1968-73 front suspension components are all the same between Mustang and Cougar year for year.
