70 Autolite 4300 - Carburetor Restoration Results

Hello all.

Just pinging an old post here.

Just received my two Autolite carbs back from Carbontooters today.  The one in the photos is for my '70 Mach 1 351C 4V 4spd with A/C.  Kurt was
a pleasure to work with.  Took about 3 weeks from the time that I shipped them until the time that I received them back.  I don't pretend to be an
expert on carb finishes but I think it looks great.  Going for a concourse level restoration so feel free to respond with any comments.

Going for a concourse level restoration so feel free to respond with any comments.


Looks like your going to need to disassemble parts of it and remove the dichromate from a number of items. Unfortunately most rebuilders today throw everything together in the same plating losing original details and some contrast.

Will provide a list tomorrow

Split and moved this discussion over here since we were going to get off the general subject of restored carburetors and focus on a particular type and such ;)

So to start off with a couple of things I would change if it was my project. Unfortunately I don't have a perfect new 70 Autolite 4300 available but I've got an example of an original I shot a few months back that shows some details (guess we could always clean it, though age seems to have taken its toll a bit on the finishes.  Combined with a NOS (68-69 boxed) 4300 I think we can collect a few clues and plating features

Overall it looks like they did a great job but like many items that are restored the final detailing is often handled by the end user

Placed arrows at the more obvious   points so what we can clearly see and discuss those points if needed

Let me know how well your carb works, by private message. I had to do 3 repairs on the dyno just to make it work and I still have one more repair on the secondaries. Glad I dyno'ed the motor before going in the car, dyno guy was real helpful in working out the bugs. If I had done this in the driveway( I am not a carb expert ) I may have shit canned it.

I wanted to thank you for all of the detail in your response.  I apologize that it took so long to respond.  Been traveling a lot lately.
