66 distributor vacuum line for smog
« on: May 25, 2016, 11:23:35 PM »
Is the metal vacuum line from the distributor to the carb and different for a car with smog equipment on it? If so, pics would be helpful. Thanks!

I assume your engine is a 289, but in any case the vacuum tube is the same as a non-smog engine.

What may confuse some it that they are often found cut after all these years. During the 80-90's there were a number of "approved" California retro fit kits that the state required (well before BAR came in to being) as they tried to reduce the emissions even more and deal with the other 49 state cars built in 66 & 67. One kit, think it cost $8-$12 and included two vacuum plugs and a decal, required that the steel vacuum line be cut and the plugs installed. Last time I purchased one (to smog a 67 GT350)  it was labeled "Kar Kit" as a packaging name. Another kit had a small box that was hooked up inline using the same (again cut) dist line and had the letters NOX on a decal on it case. These would be installed on cars originally sold out of state also that were being registered in state.

Do have pictures and complete descriptions of all the kits and installations but little use for those here and it would take us well off thread. ;)

But as Jim reported Calif and non Calif are the same. Your vacuum for the Thermactor system came from another source
