C6OE-A Water Pump without Date Code

I am looking at one of these water pumps WITH NO DATE CODE and found that odd.

Would this be something typical or unusual?

2nd, who does rebuilding of these, with new pipes etc?

Richard -- After searching for the last year for a decently priced version, I finally got one.
I see no date on the front, side or rear.
The only item I see up front number-wise appears to be more of a mold number.

By the way, the two water pipes at the top are tough to remove. I finally found a bolt that fit tightly into the pipe, heated the heck out the casting in that area with an acetylene torch, used a curved set of vice grips to grip the pipe and the bolt shank and then twisted and pulled out the pipes.

I sent them a C6OE-A water pump a couple of years (at least) ago and they did a great job on it at a very reasonable price. They sell out on eBay from time to time also. I have a nice smog pump core I need to send out to them and will do that this fall/winter. They're knowledgeable, nice, and they actually LISTEN to you in phone conversations...yeah, this is an impressive Customer Service trait these days, sadly....

Forgot to mention also that there are no date codes on these pumps like there is with thermostat covers and timing covers, which are both dated with the clock, year embossed in the center and then the "Sheffield" manufacture stamp. You'll just see a mold number (that varies), as Bossbill stated and the FoMoCo rectangle.

FWIW; I took this C6OE-A pump from my July 12, 1966 (door warrantee tag) with no cast date San Jose car.  On the pump body; C6OE-A, mold #19 and the boxed FoMoCo.  Interesting, to me, are the different heater hose tube lengths.  Some very far thinking engineers ?  Brian

Thanks all. I sent my pump out to be rebuilt by Napa, who uses Cardone.

I think it was $85 including shipping and Napa store Mark-up...not bad really. They (Cardone) took pictures of what arrived and returned, helped to ensure you got back the same pump.

Mine did not need nor get the water pipes replaced though they are not "bright zinc" colored, they are nice and solid.

Should I buy new pipes or do the hoses go down far enough and the engine paint covers the bare steel/zinc anyways?

I don't think replacing solid pipes for zinc plated ones is necessary. The bypass hose was painted on the engine connected to the pump so that is covered. Any part of the pipe that the heater hose would not cover up would have been painted during the engine painting process. They had a cap on it during painting but they did not go down all the way to the base of the pipe from what I have seen.

I'm only replacing my pipes as they were in poor shape and one had no "bulge" left.

In the pics above I whacked off the top of the pipes to get to somewhat solid metal.
I tested out how to remove the pipes on the various non-FoMoCo cores I have.

I'll post how well the new pipes slide in and fit next week.

Here are the tubes from 'Hart Bros Core', installed.
I used a brake hone on the interior of the pump and then a bit of Permatex on the tubes.
Insert a large bolt and pound in with a lead hammer.

I need to do a static test of the seals and hope the heat didn't damage them.
I have no way of testing under pressure, so we will see.

Yep, more cell phone parallax (distortion).
