Original starter cable shielding
« on: October 31, 2010, 05:19:21 PM »
I have my original starter cable and would like to re-use it but the cloth like shielding is junk. I know someone who has oem shielding but I can't see how to go about installing it . It almost looks like it would have been installed prior to molding one of the end connections. It seems impossible to reinstall without cutting the cable in two. Well I won't do that. Is there a trick to doing this? The shielding is just a touch bigger in id than the cable and much smaller than the molded rubber and metal end.

I've been investigating cloth weaving for my harness restoration business, and yes, it appears you are correct: the weaving is applied before the ends are molded/crimped.

I believe there may be a couple of companies that will actually weave something onto an existing wire: try http://www.riwire.com/
