Windshield Date Code
« on: April 28, 2025, 05:55:55 PM »
I am restoring a 1966 mustang Hipo GT fastback, that was built in Detroit and had a scheduled build date of August 12, 1966. I am ready to order my windshield for the car and need a little help with the date coding of the windshield. I do not have the original windshield for referrence. But I do have the dates for all of the side glass: Driver Door Glass-6B, Passenger Door Glass-6D, Driver Vent Glass-6A, Passenger Vent Glass-6F. What would be a reasonable month for the date coding of the windshield?

Thanks for your help.

None of my fastbacks have that much variance in glass date codes.

I have seen that the front glass is much closer to the actual build date of the car since it is used across all 3 models and supply runs out quicker than the fastback peculiar windows.

Since the windshield and the quarter windows were the windows that were the same on all 66 Mustangs they were ordered in greater numbers so I don't think they "ran out" sooner since they were ordered expecting this extra demand for those windows.

Looking at date codes I've collected for 1966 built Mustangs the vast majority of dates found on original windshields were from the month before the scheduled build date. In one or two cases both dates are from the same month. These dates included all body styles of course
