65 manual shifter linkage details/finish
«
on:
January 17, 2012, 06:04:24 AM »
Would someone be able to help me the correct finishes on the linkage associated with a t10 manual transmission
The car is a San Jose build June 65
The shift rods I think should be natural I think the brackets and levers look as if they are gold passivate
If someone had a photo or further information it would be appreciated
Thanks
Peter

The rods were typically phosphate/oil and the shift levers/gate assy was zinc plated. The spring would be natural with a couple of the other bits natural or phosphate.

Thanks Charles for your response
When you say zinc is that (silver) as apposed to zinc dichromate (gold rainbow) there appears to be minor traces of gold (zinc dichromate)
I can make some assumptions on the phosphate parts based on their current condition
Could you advise on the finish of the shaft and the two pins that the linkage levers rotate on
There appears to no finish on these however some of the shaft was was showing a polished surface similar to new axle shaft
Thanks

Yes, plain zinc is shiny silver.
The shaft was either plain steel or zinc plated. The holding pins would be dark, like a heat treated finish.

Thanks Charles appreciate the clarification on the minor details,
First one that I have taken apart to detail and I couldn't find any information about the finish on these parts anywhere online
