69 San Jose Service Decal Placement
« on: March 07, 2014, 01:17:16 PM »
On a 10/25/68 built San Jose car (no A/C), what is the most likely "correct" orientation and placement for the inner fender mounted service decal?  This is the obvious solution to me - is this right?

Perhaps this is a stupid question?  I have found pictures of an original (?) car with this decal oriented horizontal rather than vertical as I show it.

I would agree with horizontal, I could probably take a picture of an example next week.

So my "original" car with the horizontal decal is not identified as to where it was built, so I researched further.  I have now documented 5 unrestored 1969 San Jose cars, NONE of which even have this service decal installed.  One of these is an A/C car, so it is possible the decal is just lurking in some odd place and can't be seen.

Based on this information, I now think it is possible (maybe likely?) that San Jose did not apply the service decal.

Only had 2 SJ cars in the yard. Not surprising, since 1969 Cougar production at San Jose ceased, late November 1968.

I also have another picture showing that sticker on the firewall, upside down.
