240 KM/h speedometer on 66er GT 350
« on: December 28, 2014, 01:01:41 PM »
Hello,

I found this speedometer on a 1966 Shelby. Can anyone tell me anything about it, as i thought that only 220 km/h speedometer had been installed in some early european shelbys. Part Number is on the picture.
Thank you very much, Thorsten

It wouldn't be installed from the factory. A Shelby was built from cars(SJ plant) intended for American consumption. Export 66 Shelby's would have had a speedometer change out sometime AFTER it left Shelby.

Bob, I know, that shelbys did not leave The Factory with km speedometers and that the km speedometers have been installed later. I am just wondering  about this specific speedometer, as i have Not Seen it or heared of an 240 km/h speedometer in an shelby (esp. Part number c5)

Then I would leave the Shelby aspect out of the equation .The Shelby word only adds confusion to your inquiry since you know it has no bearing on what speedometer was installed .

Very odd looking Kilo Speedo - Have not seen one with that face design before that I recall

Normally 66 exports kilo speedos stop right around the 4-5 o'clock position. Doesn't "wrap" around the mileage indicators and they top out at 200 rather than the 240 as the one in your picture shows.

Same part number though

Don't think these were as much "exported" by Ford or Shelby as much as they were "imported" from companies overseas. Makes a slight different IMHO since it was reduce the standardizations and allows for more variations between the handful of cars

Just a thought

Thorsten,

That is a very interesting looking speedo indeed! I've converted my share of speedos to metric scales and Odometers, but have not yet run across one like that. I recently saw a picture of a 67 Shelby (original export car) which had a 220 km/h speedo done in the same fashion.
Where are you located? If you're willing, I'd gladly take a closer look at the speedo and also check its calibration. I'm almost willing to bet that it is an original unit and has not been "re-printed". The 67 Shelby which was done in the same fashion would support that theory but an up close and personal inspection would confirm.
