Oil cap - 67 390 w/Closed Emissions
« on: October 20, 2015, 07:13:05 AM »
Hey guys
What type of oil cap is original with a 67 390 gta fastback with emissions?
I have a chrome one with the red decal which has a 90 degree elbow on it.
Is that correct or is it supposed to have a straight emissions pipe?
Cheers

Please supply a picture if possible.

There have been other discussions on this very subject and my current understanding is that it should be a chromed cap, straight fitting FoMoCo Block style Logo.

Look into details provided in this thread: http://www.concoursmustang.com/forum/index.php?topic=11493.msg69052#msg69052

Richard
It would be relevant to list the addition of the valve cover push on adapter since the cap can not be used with out it. FYI both are available in nice reproduction.

Here's some photos
It's a push on type.

Here's some photos
It's a push on type.

The "push on" design/style refers to the bottom plate of the breather cap as compared to the twist style used later

Yes that's the design that is often seen on small blocks with closed emissions and as mentioned in the thread listed above.

What Bob was referring to (also covered in the other thread) is the adapter that attaches to the valve cover so that that style of cap (push on base) can be used.

Push on neck required for that style of breather caps (example from a 67 small 289)

Adapter visible on a 67 390 application

Without the adapter you can use (some owners do) a later twist on breather cap  like this creative owner did

Have only seen that decal used on restored 67.  Just my observations

Cheers for the reply.
I do have to adapter.
So you suggest that hose and cap are for a 289 and not for my 390 gt?

IMHO and based on my observations and experiences that is correct

Could you recommend a part number for the proper cap?
