67 Hood Turn signal grille - paint question
« on: July 13, 2018, 03:49:03 PM »
Hi Guys

Is the grille on the hood turn signal housing natural metal or body colour ? I am referring to the Louvre or grille bar that the buib hosing is attached to.

Thks!

Body color   We talked a lot in other posts you can search for about whether the grille was painted mounted or not.  Also we were discussing how many studs if any had overspray

I think the thread John refers to does not exactly address your question if he is talking about this thread: http://www.concoursmustang.com/forum/index.php?topic=7083.msg39981#msg39981

I believe the answer to your question is that the inserts were painted a grey color, light argent for example. Somebody will come along and correct my mistake if this is incorrect. Wait it out, Jeff probably has pictures from the above hood side too of the ones he showed in the other thread.

PS: The red car's hood may have been repainted at least on the top side of the hood.

Thks Richard, I ended up painting them body colour, if I hear otherwise I guess I can always strip them down back to metal.

Richard, that was the post I was thinking of.  The insert grilles were painted body color, not gray/argent.  Have you seen originals that were not body color?  John

Hope these help - this lot are all 67 San Jose that I had in a separate file (along with another half dozen or so) from an earlier discussion.

I thought I had. I will look again at the two sets I have, one was a 68 so that may be the difference? The other set I have, I thought was an original paint 67 and I was thought it was the same grey.

Now I am curious. I see Jeff posted pictures, one early (red example) and the others later (the blue and the beige) while I was writing a reply, so now I am hoping maybe to see if this has any relationship to build location or period of time. If all are painted, that is good to know NOW! I am still hoping to get paint on before end of summer.

Also take a look at the 1968 Life Magazine Ford UAW strike pictures. If I recall there were 1 or 2 that showed these inserts on a rack for painting

May help but we have to be careful and consider that is a completely different year

I've never seen an original standard 67, any plant, with the grills not painted body color

I expanded a bit into 68 based on Richard's previous post wondering if 68 was different.

I agree and have not seen any original paint 67 (or 68 for that matter) that were not body color (except for the 68 only factory black hood stripe option)
