70 GT500 - Engine decal ID
« on: June 15, 2023, 12:47:08 PM »
I have a 1970 GT500 conv. and was planning to buy some engine compartment decals. Much to my surprise there are several choices for 69/70 428CJ engine sticker.  418T, 421T, 421A, 424T, 420T, 419T, and 426T

Can you wizards out there tell me how to read these numbers please?  I spoke to NPD sales dept and they couldn't answer these detailed questions. My car was ordered March of 69 by the dealer with a request not to ship unti Dec. 10th of 69. The dealer (Portland OR) took deliver late Dec.  Car was assembled in Dearborn Michigan

Thanks in advance

Im guessing you dont have a build sheet?

If not providing the date the car was built, the options, the trans and if its a super cobra jet

Heres some additional information

Thank you, this gets me in the right direction for sure. I do have a copy of the order sheet from Lois Eminger from long ago but that really doesn't have all the details of a build sheet. I'm guessing

I will get with Marti report and sort this out, many thanks

It?s on build sheet and engine ID tag. If either is missing it still can be determined by build date, engine (cj or scj) and transmission. Regarding date in case of Shelby, disregard 70 as 69 would apply. Also commonly available id stickers are incorrect as they have engine plant wrong. Should be D not L

Also note that the reproductions are also vinyl stickers rather than the clear coated paper based one originally used. The originals don't hold up as well as the stickers but we don't use the cars like they were originally either. Just a choice like most things.
