1969 Speed Control Wiring needed
« on: April 23, 2025, 07:41:36 PM »
Seeking the speed control wiring that connects the turn signal wiring to the main harness wiring via a short "jumper" wiring connection.
This wire also goes to the dash switch, brake release relay and the speed control unit in the engine compartment.
I have a 1969 Mercury Cougar XR7 which has this setup. I'm not 100% sure why as the wiring diagrams show this setup for use on the Mustang only. I've owned my car since 1979.
I posted earlier a picture of the "jumper" connection.
My car was built at the end of April 1969 so maybe that has something to do with it. Seems like a fair number of parts listed in the MPC are before or after April 30, 1969.
Was that a changeover date??
Any additional insight or information would be apricated.
Forgot to mention the part number is 9A840. I don't have the complete number

The turn signal arm/switch is the hardest part to find in good condition or new. Cougars and Mustang cruise control may be different but all the main aspects I am aware of are the same . At least on 69. In years past I had a number of cars that I installed cruise on .  Using a wiring schematic you may have to make the harness you need. I typically got my pieces from donor Cougars. Try West Coast Cougars.

Bob,
Thanks for your response although it does really address my inquiry. I don't need the turn signal lever; I have a couple of NOS ones. The cruise control system is factory installed.
I am only searching for the harness that connects all the components. As I mentioned, I believe the 'jumper" part is used for the Mustang, but nobody seems to know anything about it. The only other car I have found that has a similar harness is for the Thunderbird.
If you look at the wiring diagram for the '69 mustang speed control, it shows the "jumper" I'm talking about.
Jumper is probably not the correct term for identifying this part, but it is about 6" long with 2 connectors that connect the turn signal wiring to the main harness wiring. The 2 green wires from the speed control wiring go to each connector. The green wires are spliced into the blue/white stripe wire from the brake release relay.
