Blue dot on 1970 differential 3rd member
« on: December 23, 2012, 01:51:37 PM »
May 1970 Dearborn B2
3:50 Track lock- see  attached tag

I have the rear out of the car and I am going through restoring it. I am used to seeing the various yellow paint markings, but I found a small blue dot on the underside of the pumpkin  on the pinion support where the yoke slides in.

Any idea of the significance?

Also if anyone has some detailed pictures of a completely restored rear, please post them.

Thanks,
Tony

We don't always know why marks were placed on parts. On many there were marks applied when the part was made, later after the part became part of a larger assembly and sometimes again after that sub assembly got attached to another larger group of parts (trans, rearends and front suspension come to mind)

The blue mark you have in the picture IMHO is likely just the tail end of a larger mark that was applied to the washer/shield between the yoke and third member a typically found mark on cars like yours
