'72 Q Code 351CJ Cobra Badge?
« on: May 11, 2015, 06:21:08 PM »
I purchased a '72 Mach 1 Q Code that has Cobra badges above the Mach 1 decal.  Is this correct?  I can't find any photos online with these Cobra badges.  I want to make sure these are correct or if someone added them.  Thanks.

Looks like the 1968 Shelby emblem reproduced by Scott Drake.

Not original - a PO add on

May be able to pull some dental floss behind the adhesive (between it and the paint) and remove them without damage. Might need to clean up the remains with a little reducer and some polish

Good thing you didn't ask about the Goodyear Tires ???  LOL

That car looks very nice!   Congratulation - we would love to see and hear more.    If you knew of the car, followed restoration etc etc.  Nothing wrong with 71-72 cars IMO.   (ESPECIALLY the R codes)

Thanks guys.  I'm certainly no Mustang expert, but I thought those badges were out of place.  The car has been repainted at some point and still needs a few things patched up here and there, but overall looks and runs strong.  I'm researching the original purchaser of the car and hope to find more info, pics, etc.  I'm the 4th owner.  More to come..  By the way, this forum is amazing.  Thanks to all for this amazing resource.   :D

Agree with others that the badge is not original and should be adhesive backed for removal.  Car does look nice.

No American Shelbys were made past 1970.  However, a few Mexican Shelby's were made (all coupes, I think) beyond that.

Great factoid on the Shelby's, midlife.  I've tried the dental floss method, but it's too weak.  Those badges are on there!!  Gonna try fishing line.  Don't want to damage the paint.

The Shelby Europa

Not really a Shelby product but did carry the name

Mexican Shelby's continued production until 72 - Only 200 built - but they never really built any great numbers
