1968 Speed/Cruise Control Part needed
« on: January 24, 2020, 02:00:13 PM »
I have a 1968 Mustang Coupe with an original factory speed control and I managed to fix it nearly completely.

Now I am only in need of one last part for my speed/cruise control system:

- the connecting hardware for the servo control bracket (bellows) to the existing accelerator rod (the previous owner must have it removed ?).

I am attaching one pdf document of the parts I have and one pdf document of the part I need.

Does anyone have this part for sale or knows somebody who has ? (I know that this part is very difficult to find !)
Another possibility for me could be to "built" the part myself, in this case I would need detailed pictures and exact dimensions of an original part.

P.S. If you have specific questions over these complicated/rare nature of the 1968 speed control system, I may have some good pictures from my original factory speed control.

Thanks

David

Are you talking about basic part numbers 9D763 and 9B713 and fasteners, as shown in the attached 68 diagram?

67 diagrams only included for reference.

I tried West Coast Classic Cougar, on their website my needed part is not available or out of stock. But I will contact them directly by mail or phone to ask.
No, I need basic part numbers 9D766, 9D768 and 9D774 (+ fasteners).
Thanks :)

All three of the parts you mentioned are the same part for 67 & 68 Mustang, but do not cross over to other Ford vehicle lines which will reduces the potential field.

I was hoping to see one or more parts also used on something else.   I don't have the Mercury MPC but would think that these would cross over to the Cougar.

Looking back to the future, to see if any of these were used after 1968, I came up empty handed.

Good luck with your search.

Actually I found the Mercury 1975 version of the 1965-72 MPC and:

9D766 says to "improvise"
9D768 also says "improvise"

but the C7ZZ-9D774-A was used on the Cougar (F), and it appears also on the 1968 Mercury (A).  The 68 full size Mercury might be a good source.

Hi John,

Thank you very much for our research and effort. That these parts were used in your mentioned other vehicles increases my chances to complete my speed control  :D Great.

Best Greetings

David
