65/66 C4 transmission oil pan
« on: February 13, 2020, 04:26:46 PM »
Looking for an NOS C4 transmission pan that would have been on a 65/66 Mustang.  Seems the reproductions keep leaking and are shaped a little different so want to see if I can find an original.
Will consider a used original if its in really good condition.

If anyone has one let me know....email or PM

There are ways to make the reproductions seal. I noticed the holes are slightly off too but got them to thread in. It might be good to enlarge the holes by a few 1000ths.

On a dry case, out of the car, begin by running a very tiny maybe an 1/8" bead of The Right Stuff sealant around the INSIDES of the holes of the new pan. Align the cork gasket & Bolt it LOOSELY SNUG to a clean, oil-free trans case and let it cure overnight.
The rest is self explanatory but clean off any RTV you see that may have pushed out the holes.

Thanks Richard,

As usual, there is always something here that makes it a bit more complicated.  The car is not here at my shop but a friends car that is up in Napa CA.  So I will fly up there and work on the car.  My goal is to go up there and fix it right...so I think having an original pan would be the best here as I will not have all my tools with me.

For sealant I prefer to use this Permatex product because its specifically made to be used with ATF fluid. Never tried Right Stuff product but maybe that works as well?

Hi Marcus - When are you planning to come to California, there are a few Auto Transmission Parts Warehouse's here in Northern California (San Jose, Hayward) that have
a big stock of parts. I can check and see what they have in stock, if you are interested. FYI, I used to rebuild Auto Transmissions, and I never, never used any sealing products on with them, but things may have changed over the years (MHO)
