Weren't the original bumper covers just painted with indented/formed lettering?  Any letter inserts would be aftermarket afaik.  I had a '96 and a '00.

The "MUSTANG" and "MUSTANG GT" letters for 94-98 was embossed into the bumper material.

If memory serves correctly, most of the ones that I have seen were body color.  I often wondered about those that were not body color, if it was aftermarket or some sort of Ford package.

I owned a 96 GT and can verify the SN95s are simply body color.
