68 ram air air filter housing decal
« on: September 29, 2020, 06:05:49 PM »
I came across a 20k mile 68 R code car with a autolite sticker that I first thought was replaced at one point untill I saw a well restored 68 KR shelby this weekend at a regional SACC event and it had a very similar decal in use is it possible these were used on late cars the pics are from a 26U build.

I dont believe that Autolite decal is correct for a KR.

KR correct, several period photographs confirming it.

Unfortunately low miles doesn't mean that it has not been played with especially with performance cars.

Looks through my pictures and found the following. Easy to see that the owner was not worried about keeping the car factory so no reason they would (or at least less likely IMHO) that he would replace the decal

Earlier than your car - this one 8R163xxxx but what I've got

This design is consistent with ones used on other sized engines that year

I was in contact with a previous owner from about 2000 and he stated he was showing his car and was judged, at the time the air filter housing did not have any sticker on it and was advised to use the one pictured to avoid a point loss.

The picture in reply #3 is different than the reproduction shown in reply #2.  Look at the distance between the lower right hand corner of the red box and the lower left hand component of the letter "A" for comparison.

Like many items, what is “correct” has evolved over the years. Especially in light of original photos becoming available.
