1967 -2B Interior Paint Code/Formula Help
« on: May 18, 2025, 12:18:03 PM »
Our 67 Mustang coupe is Brittany Blue with 2B interior, NJ car with a build date of 5-11-67. I need help on telling our body man the correct paint codes for the 2B interior. I need codes so he can purchase a quart of paint, or however much he needs to buy so he can spray it. I went to the Library on the forum and looked up the 67 paint codes. On the PPG Ditzler 1967 Interior Colors, 13004 is Light Blue Poly and 13056 is Dark Blue Poly. Our body man contacted his paint supplier checking status of the mixture of those 2 codes. His paint supplier told him that those 2 codes are each blue, but they come up in his system as a Toyota and a Mazda color. Why would this be? Someone here on the forum sent me a screenshot of 67 codes for Light Blue Metalic, M 4J 1832-S and Dark Blue Metalic, M 4J 1847-S. But those are for a 6 ounce spray can. NPD has AP-5770 Dark Blue and AP-5748 Light Blue. But those are each aerosol spray cans, I need a quart, or something that he can spray with his spray gun.

In a book, How To Restore Your Mustang by Larry Dobbs and Donald Farr, it has interior paint codes as Dark Blue Irid as 5784 and Light Blue Irid as 5748.

Can someone tell me what paint codes I need to provide to our body man so he can order paint for our 2B interior on our 67? I?m sure someone has had to paint a 2B on a 67 before.

Thank you!

Yes owners and builders run across this all the time - trying to use 60 or so year old codes and formulas to get the results (the original look and color) they are looking for. Lead and other things that made up the pigments have been replaced or eliminated by law leaving us with the challenge as you have found.  Not sure why you painter came up with Toyota and Mazda colors in interesting. Must be much older cars from those makers since I can't recall seeing blue interiors in other brand for decades. Can't be an exterior match since those would be glossy and the Mustang interiors were not. Yes hope someone that has gone through the effort of having the original color matched in recent years and has a formula that can be used will pop up.

If not you'll need to find some samples from protected areas of the interior and have those computer match. If so I suggest you share that formula with the other members and lurkers here to help them out.  If you have a coupe the area on the side and below the lower seat cushion might be the best or at least one of the places I would look for a decent sample

Another option that you might try is, if your happy with the color in the rattle cans, would be to contact the company that makes them and see if they will sell you some bulk paint. If it's legal in your area of the country to receive or to shoot is up to you.  ::)

For what it's worth, I've had very good results using the NPD aerosol cans for all my interior stuff.  You're not spraying large areas and none of it is glossy.  My color code on my 68 NJ is the same blue code and I've been happy with the color match.

Thank you both for the replies. We had the entire car sandblasted, so I don?t have any original color to try to match. Dave, your reply seems like the way to go, buy NPD rattle cans of AP-5770 and AP-5748. Either our body man can use those rattle cans, or he can just spray something with the rattle cans and have his paint guy computer match them. If he has his paint guy computer match them, I will get the mixture and post it for future reference.

It?s encouraging to hear that another member has used the rattle cans from NPD, with a 2B interior, and has been pleased with the results.

Thank you both!!
