Underhood Lights
« on: June 07, 2025, 05:42:04 PM »
Decades after disassembling my 69 Mach I found these in a box.  Do you think they are original or aftermarket? Car did not have the Convenience or Visibility Group option:

I found one reference for an engine compartment light in the "1969 Mustang Electrical Assembly Manual" (AM0028, pg 80) but it was for a Cougar. It was wired to the starter motor relay, probable used a mercury switch.
If you do not have a set of assembly manuals for your car, i recommend you invest in a set.

I promise to be politically correct in all my posts to keep the BBBB from vociferating.

Yes originals used a mercury switch to activate both the engine compartment and trunk lights.

Here is what the C9ZZ_14A318-A lit looked like

What you show looks similar (if there is an internal mercury switch) to what was used in earlier years  (68 example shown)  and for trunk lights but the mounting brackets appears to be shaped differently to me at this point

Could not find any pictures of those out of the trunk lid and such but here is an original for a 68 attached. As we can see the light and the wiring is different than what you show. Don't know at the moment if the one below is missing the shield or every had one. Trunk ones typically don't

Jeff the part number C9ZZ-14A318-A is for the power lead from the fuse box. The light in the picture is a dome light for a coupe. The under hood light for 1969 is very similar to the 1968 version with a C9 part number

Thanks for catching that and I'll figure someway to alter the post above to show it not being correct for the thread. DONE

That is what happens when you rush and also place a picture in the wrong sub directory.  >:( Bound to happen from time to time but the important thing is providing the correct info for those asking
