70 Metuchen Built Boss 302 Decal/Stickers
« on: June 14, 2025, 05:33:14 PM »
See that (using the search) that we've not covered these items in the past here on the site and since I posted a response on other site figured I should post the pictures and info here also. As always hope this helps others. Changed some of the wording and got rid of the quotes from the OP on the other site.

First request was related to the tire pressure decal.

Well that one could be clearer  ::)  It gets applied to the door jamb (back edge) of the passenger door. Would go with the D0ZA-1532-F version given the plant and production period

Final item that was mentioned in the posts was the
Engine compartment for a very late 70 Metuchen Boss 302. Got as close as I could with pictures that still had some of the remains of the originals. Since these are unrestored cars, prefer using those rather than a restored car/example if I can help it, not everything you will see in the pictures will be original to the cars so don't get distracted please by things not part of the discussion  :)

From the drivers side -

Green arrow = Battery inspection decal. Don't believe anyone is offering one widely and commercially made of paper like the originals or filled out correctly for a 70 NJ car.
Blue arrow = Air filter service decal. Make sure the reproduction lists on the bottom edge the correct part number of you cars application
Yellow arrow = Engine ID sticker. Originally paper based (like the air cleaner decals) with a clear overlay.
Red arrow = BOSS 302 valve cover decal. As Hopey mentioned on on each valve cover

Engine ID sticker on front of the drivers side valve cover. Make sure to get one that matches your engine. More than one choice when it comes to these. Originals will have torn off ends from tearing (think tape machine details) each from a roll the worker carried.

Also the snorkel timing decals. It's a reproduction but should provide location and orientation

Service sticker location from latter half - to end of production examples

And for others that will be viewing this that do not have shakers

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Trunk decals for cars with the space saver spare tire

And example of the location from a later half 70 NJ built BOSS 302

Don't forget the jack decal

And if you want to go a little further and make it more like it was here are some pictures of the turn and taillight stickers. The LH taillight sticker is often more on the back side (like the RH one) than this single example but it shows that the locations are most often close but not identical every time

We could also discuss and show wire labels form wire looms in both engine compartment and trunk areas of these cars.

It was also mentioned that the yellow arched WARNING decal on the spare tire included in many of the "decal kits" shops sell isn't correct if your looking at presenting your car as built or as delivered to its first buyer.

It's always a challenge when it comes to showing what is incorrect since many people will look and remember what they see but are less likely to even read the captions or other wording. Same thing when I was training as an instructor they stressed that you NEVER show someone how not to do something because by showing them you increase the likely hood that in an emergency they will remember what they saw and repeat it. I got plenty of examples related to this sort of practice that caused injury and lose of life.

But on the subject yes the Yellow space save (with the white with red letter chain warning one) and the CAUTION FAN decals were not original (day they were built or sold to the first owner typically) If you choose to apply them for safety reasons that is up to you and your choice just be aware other people will trust that you put them on the car because they were. Your choice.
