Speaker mounting
« on: December 17, 2013, 01:50:12 AM »
Hi everyone.

First off...thank you everyone who responded to my previous post about the problems with my convertible top. I haven't had time to look at that problem yet (finishing finals here at USC).

However, I am curious of where people with other 70 convertibles have mounted speakers. I am tempted to get the ABS plastic kick panels with speaker pods, but I am afraid that the protrusion from the panel will interfere with the functioning of the parking brake (I have been told the protrusions extend out 2.5in). Has anyone else tried these? Do people have recommendations of where I should mount the speakers? Do the dash speakers on the market today have good sound quality?

Bear in mind, I am also changing out my radio (in 2004 I removed the factory radio...think I might have it somewhere, need to look...and replaced it with a pioneer radio). I am going to install a retrosound radio (most likely the zumba model).

Many thanks

Jason

Build a box, set it on your back seat  and wire it with a plug so it can be unplugged and the wire hidden between the rear cushions. Its a convertible and a old car its not going to have IMHO great sounds.  Anything else means drilling holes and modifying things.

Thing you might be better served asking this question over on one of the other sites that does not focus on Concours cars ;)

Well that answers my question...I think I will go just for the in-dash speaker (though I will upgrade it to a dual-coil model and call it a day...now the real question is if someone has a recommendation for a dual-coil model speaker.

Thanks

No one has a recommendation for a good dual-voice coil speaker (5 x 7). Like I said, it isn't standard, but I am trying to do a little better than what came stock with the car.

Have one in the Cougar unfortunately can't tell you who makes it and I've not used it very much yet.

Believe it was purchased through either West Coast Cougars or NPD

Thank you Mr. Speegle...purchased a set of molded kick panels to see if they will fit the car (though I have a feeling they might not clear the e-brake). Will keep the originals for shows. Probably will get a dash speaker. Thanks for the response.
