64-66 Passenger Under Dash Light Spacer
« on: December 29, 2013, 06:18:58 PM »
While re-doing the dash on my 64 1/2 mustang, this peice of rubber fell down from around the glove box area. It measures approximately 1 inch by 1/2 inch. Is this a dampener for when the glove box is "dropped" open or shut hard? I have never ran across this one before. If it does go there, can anyone tell me exactly where so I can put it back? Thanks!

That's a rubber grommet for the under-dash courtesy light housing.  Kind of rare, not always used.

Huh, guess that's why I haven't seen it before. Any reference on how it goes back? Thank you

Is this the same thing?  I was redoing my heater core on my SJ Oct 64 car last year and it fell out too when I removed the heater core, under dash light, and glove box.  I didn't put it back because I didn't know where it went or how it was installed.  Any pics on how it goes?

That little pad lays on top of the teardrop shaped Under Dash Courtesy Light Bracket. You'll find that it fits only one way and follows the shape of the end through which you put the Mounting Hardware to the Dash. It insulates the Bracket from the dash to help prevent damage to the Dash and distortion of the Bracket. The part number of the Pad is C4ZB-13A739-A; don't know if any are still available.

Found it in the restoration guide on page 323.  Say it is only for the right hand side though.  Wonder why they didn't put one on the left...

What restoration guide?  I don't know of any that have 323 pages.

I don't know why it's only shown or used on the Passenger Side. Maybe someone out there knows the answer.

Midlife, the guide is pictured below.

This looks to be correct as this was found on the glove box side. No such insulator on my drivers side light.

The book referenced is basically reprints of a 72 or 75 version of the MPC only smaller chosen pictures - not all of the pictures from the MPC

Not sure when these were used but it seems that it was very short. Not unusual since Ford changed the bumpers and insulators allot in the first year of production due to fit and rattle issues

Just wanted to share this rare part that Ive never seen before. Upon removing the RH courtesy light in my 66 GT convertible I came across this part, an interior lamp pad. Ford P/N C4ZB-13A739-A. I dont believe this part has ever been reproduced. Only installed on the RH side. Mount between the dash and courtesy light bracket. Made of rubber.

Never seen one of those but if convertible only those don't get junked very often so would not have seen them in those situations. Or maybe something only used for a limited period but have not found those on 66 coupes or fastbacks or on later years. Not understand the purpose of them.

The "pad" is shown in 65 Mustang Electrical Assembly Manual (AM0008) pg 19 and 66 Mustang Electrical Manual (AM0013) pg25, for the RH side courtesy light only. It is supposed to be for all models of 65 and 66 Mustangs to clear the "plenum chamber door". The 64 Mustang Electrical Assembly Manual (AM0003) pg 15 show the courtesy lamp installed at an 80 degree angle towards the center of the car to provide clearance.
Read the manuals.
