Heater Hose Straps 66 289 4V SJ
« on: June 29, 2015, 01:16:43 PM »

I am wondering about the heater hose straps. I have the routing in place but what holds these up off the valve covers and together, etc? I read lots about the strap on the 6s, is it the same for my car?

1) What straps should I be using or have and

2) Can you get them anywhere these days?

I have an early Sept 65 built SJ 4V.

Any pictures would be great.

Thanks,

Jeff

IMHO no straps - the heater hoses are meant to run along the top of the valve cover/side of the intake to their connection points on the intake manifold and water pump

Is this a Thermactor equipped car?

If you had AC then there would be a strap for that hose on the drivers side - metal style one

No Thermactor. So no straps (Zap straps  ;)) holding the 2 hoses to one another?

Thanks again Jeff.

Nope - no straps, zip ties, duct tape holding the two heater hoses together. If you route them (top one) under the PCV hose and both under the spark plug wires and don't cut them so they are too long they stay in place and neatly

One runs through the clip on the carburetor.

The hot water from the engine runs past the choke to keep it open, except HP engines.

Those heater hoses do not appear to be routed correctly.  The hose that goes through the bracket at carb should connect to the intake.

Interesting that the shop manuals for 65 and 66 show different routes.  I elected to go with the 66 route.  Brian
