Most likely a 70 Dearborn car but that would  only be a guess.

H have been told that these metal brackets were likely to be cad (gold) plated rather than zinc but it is hard to tell as most were covered over. I was wondering what the current concensus is? To be really specific I am interested about a November 1969 Dearborn car.

They were raw steel.

Folks, I think I can answer this unequivocally. I have just received an assembly line version of this part from Bob Perkins. It is silver cad plated. Not gold zinc plated as I had earlier thought. Not silver zinc. And certainly not bare steel.

I can’t post pictures here but would be happy to email them to anybody who wants a copy.

I said bare steel because the last 2 originals I looked at were rusty finish then I looked in my inventory and found 2 I replated years ago phosphate and oil so I checked the 67-70 assembly manuals and that part # 372185-s2 is shown and the s2 means phosphate and oil plating. Years ago I sent this part to deadnutson and Daniel carpenter to have made and carpenter made it first off my original and he cad plated them instead of P&O so they wouldn't rust laying around in inventory for years. This part has aiways been hard to find since they were only on manual trans cars and the rh cable floorpan holder is also hard to find and nobody repoed it correctly yet, These 2 speedocable holders are a much needed part and if u don't install them u will have cable damage due to h-pipe heating and melting cable especially on big block cars as that's why so many cars need a new speedocable. You can buy this holder from npd for $4.25 under # 372185-s and it will come cad plated so if u want to be concours correct u need to replate it phosphate and oil.

A word of caution. In talking to Bob P, Marcus Anghel and others over the years I have been amazed at the number of times they have told me that hardware plating detailed in the assembly manual is not necessarily what was used in production, or that there were changes to the plating over time. This clip may be one of those instances. In the end I went with Bob’s expertise and bought the cad plated assembly clip off him. All of which proves yet again what a tricky game it is to get our cars right...but I guess that’s part of the fun/challenge/torture...
