? Cowl to Hood seal Brackets

On a  May 65 SJ car should the metal brakets at the end of the cowl to hood seal be bent down over the screws? If they are, does anyone know of a good way to bend them down?

no. but the rubber is cut even with the bracket.

I didn't cut my rubber off even like carlite65 said, but here's a picture of my 65 Dearborn with original brackets and new rubber. I think its pretty much the same for a San Jose. Metal bracket kind of supports the rubber at ends no bending.

Looks to be about 1/16" - 1/8"

Reviving this related old thread instead of creating a new one...

Late March built SJ car, what is the proper finish for the brackets and screws?

My originals had been bent down. Thought they were trashed and needed replacing but today was able to remove and straighten them, found this "AS"(?) logo on the backside:

Most would say phosphate, but I have found some painted black on cars that hadn't ever been disassembled.

Normally phosphate, but would check some of the unrestored cars from the same assembly plant/time here on the forum.

Given that you have a later 66 car I would say they were P & O

Try Ford hardware Part number 357903-S2. It's used on 64 thru 66 Mustangs for the two end brackets, qty 4.
It documented in this forum's library under topic "Mustang Hardware Spreadsheets 64-66". There are two Excel Spreadsheets there, on by "application" the other by "part number".

No and yes. Two "brackets" and four "screws" (unless you drop one or the other).

After cleaning the original screws up with a wire wheel they are in fantastic shape. Just treated with gun bluing followed by Boeshield which worked perfect for this purpose.
