Hi all,
I am trying to figure out what color interior would have likely been original to my 1967 Fastback GTA built 10/1966 San Jose. From my understanding there was only one red interior color offered for the 67 fastbacks, however I think I may have the original rear seat belts in it that are marked 1966 and have a deeper maroon color to them. If I am not mistaken the 1966 fastbacks had several tones of red for interior options. Is there any chance the factory would have used 1966 color options on an early build date 1967?

The belt has a week 38 date code
I would say that?s during 1967 production
-
But the color seems more of the maroon red than the brighter red. Do you think the "Elite" level of the Marti report would indicate the interior color? Unfortunately the build sheet is gone.

There is only one red no matter if its for 67 fastback deluxe or standard interior. Code would be on your door tag
2D or 2D1 for standard
6D for deluxe
We can look at other unrestored Oct 68 built San Jose examples for belt examples if that would help

Thanks Jeff, I do have standard red interior from the factory. I located this information on another post concerning a 1967 fastback:
There were two types of red used on the 2D interior.
Group 1 items (instrument panel, steering wheel and column, console, door panels, arm rest pads, kick panels) were red R & M #5773R.
Group 2 items (lower windshield molding, dash pad, windlace, windshield posts, sun visors, metal door surfaces, quarter trim panels, quarter vent panels, rear back seat panel, overhead strip) were dark red R & M #5732R. The seat belts and carpet were color keyed to group 2.
Would this explain why the seat belts were a darker red?

Think not since since that reference relates to painted items but likely the supplier was asked to try and match one of those (likely a sample was provided) and they got it as close as possible and it was approved.
Could post other examples but of course the look would vary due to lighting, age and condition of belts as well as other things but maybe by comparing them to things around them that might be helpful so here goes

Thank you for the photos Jeff. In your opinion is the carpet supposed to match the seat color? A company sent a photo of the color options. Which do you think would be most correct?

Your seat belts are the same color as my 69 deluxe interior. I found out that NPD's carpeting #257 is a good color match. Hope this helps.

Would not want to make a call on which one is closer without being there in person with all the parts. Sorry too much chance IMHO in getting it wrong given all the different looks using the internet, cameras and such

Am not well versed with 1967 Mustangs. That style of seat belt buckle is the deluxe version.
With Dearborn Cougars for 1967, we have noticed that not all colors were available with the base standard seat belts. Some cars received the deluxe seat belts for color match. I think that the dark red or maroon is one of those colors.
Does that hold true for Mustang?
-
Thank you for the information on the colors... I think the darker red NPD #257 will be the choice.
Interesting observation on the deluxe seat belt. The front seat belts are not original so I have nothing to compare it to. The Marti report does indicate a Shoulder Harness for the car but not deluxe interior.

Interesting observation on the deluxe seat belt.
Available as a separate option. If you notice in the one picture I posted above that is a standard interior with deluxe seat belt buckles. Top picture

You can compare the rears since they would be the same style
The Marti report does indicate a Shoulder Harness for the car but not deluxe interior.
Rare option for sure - The shoulder harness option

For this particular thread on 67 red interiors don't know why Ford would not have 67 standard buckets in red since they did the prior years
Will look through my pictures to confirmCould not find any clear pictures showing non-deluxe buckles in a red interior in my 67 files.

Make sure you order the Raylon weave and not the nylon weave. Not only is the style wrong but the color is a different shade from the manufacturer, Auto Custom Carpets, NPD's supplier.

Great info, thanks Dave.
The rear seat belts being the deluxe version is strange because the car didn't come with the deluxe package. It is certainly possible the seat came from another car but the date code on the belt matches up and they certainly appear original.
Just out of curiosity if anyone else with a 67 GTA has deluxe rear belts but standard front belts let me know. I assume the fronts should be non-retractors as well. Thank you all.

Fastback (and Coupes) ALL have FRONT seat retractors, this is true for both Standard AND Deluxe belts.
Convertibles did not (could not) use the retractors.

I was reading in this another thread on the forum which suggests that the Shoulder Harness option would come with deluxe seat belts instead of standard. This may suggest why I have deluxe belts but that option is not listed on the Marti report. Can anyone confirm if this is likely accurate?

Just to make it clear, as Jeff pointed out, Deluxe Seat Belts were not part of the Interior Decor (Deluxe) Option. Having Deluxe Seat Belts would also include the Seat Belt Warning Light, mounted in a bracket which mounts to the underside of the dash. Having this light would be a good indication that your car had the Deluxe Seat Belt Option.
Also as Jeff noted, there was only one Red Vinyl used for both Standard and Deluxe Interiors. In addition, only one color Red is listed for the 1967 Seat Belts, and it has a C7ZZ Part Number prefix, so it would not necessarily be the same as the 1966 Red Belts.
And finally, the Shoulder Harness Option required the Deluxe Seat Belt Option ; another good reason that your car had that Option.
Supporting information is attached from the 1967 Color and Upholstery Book, and the May 29, 1967 Salesman's Price Book.
Hope this helps.

Good information, thank you Bob.
Our Marti report does not show Deluxe Seat Belts but does show Shoulder Harness. I am guessing the report is not 100% accurate then, or it is assumed that if you have the Shoulder Harness option you get deluxe belts. I do not have a seat belt warning light however.
