2 1/2inch rear drum brake question
« on: September 07, 2010, 09:42:02 PM »
Can someone tell me the correct backing plate numbers for the 2 1/2 inch rear brakes? I have looked a 3 67 Shelby`s now and found K+H 71086 and 70858 on them all. But I`m being told that there are also bendix numbers 21882-L and 21993-R? What years had which? Also being told that my 69 GT500 should have them? And not by anyone I would consider an expert. Is this true?  Anyone know what came on what?

The 67 Shelby did not use the Bendix backing plates. The 67 used the KH backing plates. You see Bendix backing plates used on NJ 68 Shelby's and Dearborn produced 69/70 Shelby's but not in 2 1/2 inch. The 69/70 Shelby should not have 2 1/2 inch backing plates. It was regular Mustang size brakes that also came on CJ MachI's, Boss 302 and Boss 429 as well. I hope this helps. Bob

From what I've observed all 65 GT350's and some 66 carry over cars used KH-49294 (R) and KH-49295 (L) 2-1/2" backing plates.  Some 66 carry over cars and most, if not all, production 66 GT350's used KH-70390 (R) and KH-70391 (L).
