Fuel gauge wire
« on: August 03, 2018, 10:28:39 PM »
Another wiring question, has anyone seen this or know about it. The green with white wire was taped up in the drivers pillar,  it travels down the rocker and is part of the 2 plug connector for the fuel tank sending unit.

It is the low fuel sensor line for the convenience package that routes out back to the low fuel sending unit.

What did the convenience package consist of on the 69 GT 500? Beginnung to wonder if someone changed rear harness to a cougar harness.

I currently have a 69 Shelby tail that I am refurbishing, and that male bullet plug is part of the harness.  It routes to a 2 prong plug with the standard yellow/white wire for the fuel sensor.  This may be a standard feature for Shelby's but whether the low fuel line is always used is probably not unless there is a convenience package (seat belt, door ajar, low fuel, parking brake lamps).

Does your build sheet actually say “conv pkg” ?

Because I dont believe the Shelbys used the convienence package.

I thought  the statement at the bottom of the build sheet meant convenience package but maybe GT 500 conversion.

Correct, it is “conversion”

The wire is related to the fuel system as stated above.

The 1969 Shelby rear harness is two pieces. They are the tail light harness and the ground harness. They are unique to the Shelby and not interchangeable with other models. It is expensive to replace.

You need to evaluate each harness individually, broken or brittle wires can be repaired. Another option is to replace the entire harness.

Did 69 shelby use the low fuel sensor wire shown in above pictures?

I dont believe so. Thats why it was taped in the harness. I think the low fuel sensor is part of the tank sensor and not the same as the standard sender.

Is your car green?

69 shelbys used the 69 cougar (c9wy) rear wiring harness for the 3 sequenstial taillights system & the cougars had the 2 wire low fuel sending unit wire of which the 69 mustangs never had so u only use the 1 yellow wire mustang gas tank sending unit wire so the other( cougar only) fuel sender wire is never used on both ends of the cougar shelby taillight wiring harness.
