WANTED: AC Compressor Tag '67 York style
« on: April 11, 2019, 07:24:19 AM »
Since there does not seem to be any way of reproducing the ink that is missing on my tag, perhaps purchasing a tag or even the whole compressor with a good tag is the best way to go.

Either way, just the tag or the whole compressor if you have one with a good tag on it.

Hi Richard-
Per Bob’s recommendation, I have been in contact with Jeff at R-A Motosports 816-246-9094. His email is jeff@r-amotorsports.com. It sounds like he is going to try hooking me up, but is not back in his shop until May 1st. Hope this helps. Please let me know if you find another resource, as I need 2 of them.

I do know Jeff reproduces the best paper stickers on the AC Dryer (condenser mounted) with a choice of two different dates available...I still need one of THOSE also, so there is that. Inadvertently, I brushed Jeff the wrong way a few years ago. I hope he has a forgiving nature should this be the best source for both. I DO HAVE the original tag from my compressor missing the ink so somebody capable of re-inking may work in my situation as well. My tag is damaged some and would need detailed and buffed before inking if that were the only way but my guess is there is another solution that may include the whole compressor. My compressor has been re-sealed and will be painted this weekend but I am not beyond replacing it, as long as it s before I charge it with R-12.

Hi Richard -

Hopefully I won't derail your thread, but I do have a question regarding your tag. I was under the impression the "067" decodes as June 1967...am I wrong? I thought your tag would read something like "106".

NOPE, no derailed thread. I hadn't yet found a link to date codes for this old of a York compressor. That information is no doubt spot-on!
That compressor and tag likely came from the 67 Cougar parts car I had at one point in time. It was a late build 67 Cougar. I wondered if that was a replaced compressor at one point in time, now it seems you have confirmed the point in time was when I had that Cougar.

Not that I know anything about compressor dating, but three digit codes are also Julian dates.
This could also decode to early March.
I don't see A/C codes discussed in the Date pdf in the Library.

By the way, have you looked into silk screen? Anymore, it's become a much easier process.
There are also metal tag making machines that have come down in price to almost hobby levels.
Look up "semi auto stamping debossing metal tag dog tag printer".

I could screen and restamp the same tag on the back side if this is some tried and proven method but not looking to go in to the bid-ness and buy a stamping tool. You never know...I've waisted enough money on other useless things...take my ex (no please! take her!)

So far, the date de-coding of 2-digit month, one digit year looks to hold water. I have located another "126" code from a 67 Mustang and using the decoding method, I would say that is December 66. It "fits" too.

BKnapp, do you have a reference for the decoder?

Adding to the conversation,

From Bob Mannel’s book Small Block V8 1962-1969.  On page 7-31, Figure 7K11 has annotations for two photographs of York compressor tags with date codes of 027K and 047:

“The first two numbers defined the month with the third number indicating the year.  The trailing letter had no date significance.  For this date code [027K], the date is February 1967. The (other) tag’s date code is 047, which decodes as April 1967.”
