« on: August 24, 2019, 03:01:51 PM »
Does anyone by chance have or know where set of DOZA-5556-L Leaf Springs might be. The date code for my car is 9-23-69 that date or close may be not possible but you never know to you ask. I just need the bottom leaf to go with a set of Eaton Springs.

Please send pictures to mason6788@gmail.com

Thanks Mason

FYI the last Eaton after market set of springs I saw had a different shape end on each leaf compared to original. Not that far off but will look different if you put a original bottom leaf with the aftermarket Eaton ones. The ones Virginia sells I know match. I haven't seen any in while but that was the way they were a couple years ago. Hopefully they have changed but wanted to bring it to your attention in case they haven't.

Yeah I heard that someone else told me that you would have to buff the ends to match the original. I'm trying to get the ones at NPD so to afford those 100.00 shipping charges Eaton wants as I live 15 minutes from NPD here in Concord.

Try Virgina Mustang. They were the same as original the last time I bought some. You can ask for Brant the owner and question him. be sure to report back for myself and others.

I talked to Brant today at the MCA Grand National. The leafs he has sold thousands of are made like original . All except the bottom plate which has a flat edge instead of a curved edge like factory. In your case where you are substituting the bottom plate for a original one the different bottom plate will not matter. They do have black paint which will have to be chemically striped off he says or I suppose if you planned on painting them the dark gray (Eastwoods zinc Phosphate spray paint can) then you could paint the black leafs and the donor original bottom plate to match .  Just another alternative to striping them down to bare metal and using gun blueing or zinc phosphate bath . Of course the total stripping and replating is the best route .

I have already a set of Eaton springs and have noticed the bottom plate with the straight edge. Also that is my plan to disassembly and blast and paint with Eastwood Zinc Phosphate. I just torn wanting a DOZA or buy your springs as in may take months to finds a set of them to get the bottom leaf. Thanks again for all help and info regarding this matter.

Double check the Eaton leafs with any other original Mustang leaf springs and compare. If I am not mistaken the style of cup indentation / shape (for those reading the cup indentation helps hold rubber pads between leafs) is slightly different and maybe even the front edge shape of the the leafs between the Eaton style compared to a Eaton. It has been years since I had any so maybe things have changed . It would be counter productive IMO if you went to the trouble and expense of putting a original set of bottom leaf plates on a donor set of leaf springs unless they closely matched the factory style .  I hope that the details are the same given you already have a Easton donor set.  Just thought I would mention that so that you can make a informed decision one way or the other that is best for your situation.

Where is the date code located?

On the short leaf. Location depends on the maker and how (orientation) the stamping was applied
