Carburetor date code
« on: April 09, 2021, 09:15:44 AM »
Hi all.
My brother has an October 1968 build Mach 1 9R02Mxxxxxxx (63C F5 3A 22K 74 9 X), that originally had a  4V carb for the 351W (M code) (automatic)
When he purchased the car, the original Autolite 4300 had been replaced with a Holley.
Now, if he wanted to locate a correct date coded Autolite 4300, would it be C8ZF D, as the car was built late 1968, or would it have a C9ZF D code?
And would it be a 441cfm, or 600cfm?
The wealth of knowledge on this forum is absolutley phenomenal, so hoping someone may be able to help us identify what carb that the car would have originally have come out with.
Thanking you in advance (from Down Under!)

I would bet money that the C9ZF carbs started with the 69? model year. If it were me I would be looking for the C9ZF-D carburetor.  ;)

I would agree, 1969 car has 1969 C9ZF carburetor.

I would add I believe the carb body changed in calendar year 1969. So you will look for the earlier version. There is a small date stamped on the top of the carb body if you want to get really detailed.

Here's an example I have with a Feb. 1969 date code.
You should be looking for an 8H, 8J, or 8K for a carb build of 1968, either August (H) September (J) or maybe October (K).
Example:
C9ZF-D
 8Jxx
or
C9ZF-D
 8Kxx
xx being the day of the month..

Thankyou all so much for your advice!
That answers what was going to be my next question, ie, in regards to what the carb tag "date" should read!
I can see ontop of a "C8ZF D" carb that we currently have access to, ontop there is a circle with a "37" in it.
Is that a date code, or does it mean something else?
Would a C9ZF D have the same number in the circle?

My C9ZFD carburetor also has a 37 in that circle. Not sure what that relates to maybe others can chime in

In those photo, there is a black screw just above the dashpot.

The date code is stamped just to left on the upper half of the body

Hello,
sorry for my question in your post.

I also have a 4300 C9ZF-D carb with datecode 9A.
Does anyone know where I can buy the 2 springs on the dashpot bracket and the bracket itself??
Boths springs on my carb where broken and the bracket is maybe from a 4100 carb.

Thanks in advanced!!!

Greetings!
Harry
