1967 AC Hose Support Straps ~How many were used?
« on: July 26, 2022, 06:22:04 AM »
TWO QUESTIONS...

1st Question:
Assembly Manual shows one rubber strap on each side,  so I suppose that is the answer (and what I currently have on it).

2nd Question (2-part answer)
a.)The metal strap clamp (rubber dipped variety that holds the two hoses together along their path), is there ONE of those or TWO of them, if ANY (on a 67)?
b.) Assuming there is at least ONE of these, where should it (they) be located?
(NOTE: I don't see ANY in the Assembly Manuals).

I would say one is correct, but I have seen two. I do not know if Ford had trouble with them breaking and just added a second one?

The metal clamp is usually 8-10 inches behind the compressor.  I have seen a second one at the firewall but rarely. I make those clamps; did I send one to you?

Thanks Marty.
Yes, I have the (2) straps you sent me. Engineering number on label was a C8, so I wondered about using it is all. Presently the way you described is how I have them

Since my car has a working AC, are there any pics available to be posted?
Great thanks.

Never found nor have I found pictures of the straps on a 67 V8 application (rubber coated strap steel straps)  If they did use the metal straps at any of the plants in 67 it seems odd IMO that these are difficult to find while, for example, we see plenty on 69's for example that haven't been restored. Also seems odd that the flimsy rubber straps were easier to find pictures of than the metal ones if used the whole production year at some plants.

Didn't earlier but did now go through all my pictures and could not find any being used. Only the rubber straps to hold the two hoses to the shock tower support brackets. Those were often replaced with zip ties one that let loose.

Here is a 10K mile unrestored example Bob P had at one time. No metal straps around the two long hoses from compressor to firewall attachment points

Other examples. Not going to post all of the examples fo factory AC cars without the straps - won't serve a purpose IMHO

Couple of new reproduction stickers/decals but not much else replaced

This is the ONLY one I could find that might be one of those straps but then again it easy to see that its not rubber coated nor rust which on both accounts seems to not confirm its the same straps we're discussing here. Happens to be a pretty early 67 production San Jose Mustang

Picture of two of the metal band straps from a 69 application

While were on the subject of straps and retainers don't forget the forward clamp for the short hoses
