top loader or T10
« on: April 27, 2023, 11:35:47 PM »
Any way to tell if a car originally came with a toploader 4 speed or a t10? This is a SanJose built A code non GT car for sake of argument.

Thanks, Pat

Nope. Ford "ran out" of top loaders in early 1966 and substituted T-10 transmissions.

Only way to tell if your specific car "might" have one or the other, would be to research and document other unrestored examples from the same plant around the same time. Since we don't know exactly when each car was really build you would need to have IMHO results that were clear and free of the other type of transmission for a month of more and even then it would not IMHO be a certainty.

Pretty sure your car would have come with a T10 like mine. JWC66 is correct, Ford had run out. My '66 San Jose built GT came wth a T10. It's VIN tag has F23 (June 23) for the build date.
