70 GT500 carb bowl vent
« on: May 01, 2025, 05:56:48 PM »
As part of the carb mods to the 70 gt500,  was the vent on front carb bowl plugged.  I saw this pic of a 7k mile 70 that recently sold.

Or was the vent only on the 4280 carbs on the automatics and the 4279 4 speed carb never vented to begin with.

FYI even though this may be a 7K mile 70 the carb has been completely restored given the wrong finishes on a number of parts.Be careful if copying.

Holley typically plugged that hole with a slug of lead not a well plug.

All the original 70 gt500 shelbys i seen and have had the hole pluged with the same plug used on holley metering block and this was done at KK plant in groups of 20 or so cars at a time according to john harp who i have talked to several times over the years about his work at KK plant as he was the third guy hired when ford started up the brighton mi.  KK plant. I have the blueprints on converting these  69 holleys over to 70 manual chokes and they were hand stamped ED in front of the alum tag c9af # of which ed. stood for EDited.
