correct exhaust manifold date codes
« on: May 25, 2025, 07:05:03 PM »
Recently found some NOS C4OE exhaust manifolds for my 65 C-code convertible.

 Eng tag date: 4-L

What casting dates would be appropriate for my project?

Either "4-J" September, 1964) or 4-K" (October, 1964) wold be OK. There should be an actual engine assembly date visible on the LH block near the distributor.
See attached -
The first is the engine assembly date code location (the yellow arrow, the red arrow is for head casting number)
The second is code "format" (year, month, day, assembler/inspector)

I should also mention that the "actual engine assembly date" (same format as the the one referred to above) is also stamped on the attaching surface of the oil pan on the right hand side towards the front. You need to remove the oil pan to see it.

 Thanks for the info.

I currently have NOS C6OE exhaust manifolds that might be traded for the more correct C4OE ones.

My factory originals are C4OE but are too pitted and rusty for my preferences.

I'm also being encouraged to install my NOS Hi-Po manifolds, of course the casting dates on those won't matter. Since, the car never had them in the first place. Considering all the changes, I will need to make for the installation. I don't see any real benefit in changing over to HiPo manifolds on the stock 2bbl engine.

Often searching for manifolds in/from the south west will increase the likelihood that they will not have heavy pitting  and given the the application not great expense. Challenge is often just getting the sellers to take the time to look through and send you the date codes.
