Brake pedal support paint marking - 68 Dearborn
« on: May 27, 2025, 11:42:59 AM »
I few very knowledgeable people disagreed on this subject, so I thought I'd post it here.

I was about to strip and re-paint the brake pedal support until I saw this green paint mark. I know the factory used different colors of paint (including green) to indicate different things. If this is a factory mark, I'd prefer to preserve it. Can anyone here say for certain whether this is, or isn't, a factory mark? Also, nothing else in this car is even close to this color. And, the pedal support is almost certainly original because of the date stamp.  And to be clear, I'm not asking about the pedal itself, and also not asking whether the entire support was painted.

Thanks!

Have not witnessed or seen this green mark on any 68 Dearborn or for that fact any 68's before. Doesn't mean it's not just means I've not seen one in 50 or so years. It may be based on what I have seen on other years.

Can't recall if there were different peddle supports for different applications, guessing so since there is an ID marking like there are on other years. What is your application?

Hi Jeff,

It's a 68 Dearborn Fastback 8F02J166xxx.  I was told that the power brake support mounts different from the non power brake support, and that may be why some were marked.  My car did not have power brakes.

Thanks,
-Richard

Really??  I would love to know for sure.  If it's factory, I'm def going to preserve it.
Thanks,

Amazing!  Thanks Jeff, et al.  I'm glad I posted here.  I was close to sandblasting it and painting the whole thing.

Thanks again.

Jeff beat me to it. I've seen that green a lot on 69 Dearborn. 68 only 2 styles, PB and no PB
