I have a question about the front backing plate to spindle gasket for my 65 V8.
But first a note on the grease baffle plate to backing plate gasket. I ordered a pair from a vendor who sells NOS parts. They weren't sold as NOS but as
"restored". They turned out to be "salvaged", all filthy with black old grease and apart some places. Useless. However, I noticed them to be of the same
foamy white material as the old ones on my car. So I assume this material to be OEM to early August 1964 SJ V8 cars? As mentioned above the material appears
on a close inspection to be exactly the same as the foam packaging material readily available (expanded closed-cell polyethylene). I couldn't lay my hands
on a sample, so now I have bought a 300-yard roll...
About the circular spindle gasket, I have these from my car (see pictures).
The material is a sponge rubber type with brownish particles (cork rubber?). My question is: are these OEM/correct? Anybody knows exactly what material they are (in
case they are OEM)?
