Hood decals for a 70 Mach 1
« on: July 29, 2009, 12:49:53 PM »
I would like to repaint my Mach 1 and I can't find a source for the hood decals (351 etc.). I tried Virginia Mustang and Marti Autoworks with no luck. Marti wanted me to pay for the full run (30 plus sets) in-order to get one set. Very pricey!! Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Which ones do you need-shaker or hood scoop?  We have the new stencils for painting the stripes-just got them. They are also available as decals, but the stripes were originally painted.

It is my understanding that the main stripe and the thinner stripes on a non-shaker hood are painted. I'm looking for the decals for the engine size (351) that breakup the thinner stripes. Please correct me if I am wrong. I'll definitely going to purchase the stencil kit for the stripes.
Thanks Brant

dso72,

I too think that the stripes themselves were originally painted, then the "351" were decals.

The hood stencil has the "351" in it, but you could use the decals instead.  The "351" decals are available in black or white.

How about the more unusual 351 decal where the number is black with a white outline?  Anyone ever figure out how and when these were used instead of the more common all black?  I have a NOS set still in the envelope.  I have always liked the look of these.

My research indicates the black w/ white outline engine displacement decals are later Ford service items. While they were obtained from dealership parts department they are not correct for concours restorations.
