Template for Installing Rocker Moldings on '67 Coupe?
« on: November 21, 2013, 05:25:38 PM »
I've got a '67 coupe that I'd like to add rocker moldings to.  I recently bought the moldings and all of the installation hardware.  I've dealt with these in the past, but I've always had the factory holes as a reference.  I'd like to get the spacing of the clips as close as possible to factory original.  Ordinarily I'd make a template off of a known original car as I did in the past with my '69 Mach 1, but there don't seem to be any '67-68s in my area with rocker moldings.

Could anyone possibly provide measurements of the spacing of the clips?
Too much junk, too little time.

I may get to the GT/CS later today or tomorrow in the shop, I'll take some photos and measurements...  assuming '67 and '68 are the same...

My car's out having some work done right now, so I probably can't get exact measurements until after Thanksgiving - but here are a couple of reference photos that might help...

Big question here in France about rocker moldings on 67 GT cars, is it an option or is it mandatory ?

For 67 I think the two rules for applying rocker panel moldings are:

1. All fastbacks except those to be transformed into Shelby's

2. All with exterior decor option (rocker panel moldings, wheel opening moldings, pop open gas cap, vented hood, rear accent trim on decklid and rear quarter panel caps)

When I looked at your GTA I see all of the exterior decor components except the rocker panel moldings.  Either I'm wrong and they were an option separate from exterior decor, or yours were removed.

The rocker moldings were optional and weren't part of the exterior decor group. My '67 has the exterior decor group, but doesn't have rocker moldings.

Here are some dimensions, verified off two of my '68's.  Dimensions were within a couple mm of each other.  the front is to the rear edge of the fender not the other holes as it was of the car on one and only pre-fit before paint and not fully adjusted on the second.

This is the rear part under the door.  The circle is the rear wheel area, the two black lines where the seam is between the rear 1/4 and rocker (ends up being pretty much top of molding) and the rear wheel arch.

<<<========Front of car   The distance between the hole pairs is consistent all the way forward, 3 more pairs under the door.

Front fender, just a measurement from the edge of the seam between door and fender forward to the hole, same horizontal reference.
