Could it be the tested value for ductility (an indication of strength)?

Well, that is an interesting thought and certainly a possibility.  I have seen other C9 balancers with ' DUC. 6  C24  E ' and ' DUC. 4  M5 '.  Brian

My guess would be that its the supplier (sub contractor) marking/ID and a identifier that told them when it was made s0 they could run down a bad batch if needed.

Woohoo - looks like my instinct was correct. 

From "Mr. F.E." himself, Mose Nowland, here is the answer:

Balancer hubs are castings of ductile iron for some high performance applications. DUC cast into the hub casting assures that it is the right material.
