1969 Trunk floor repo vs NOS
« on: March 16, 2014, 06:57:13 PM »
Hi,
Does anyone have experience with the repo trunk floors? Apparently my battery leaked and corroded the trunk floor. So I'm wondering if I should go NOS or repo. The repo seems to have the small raised details just like the originals but not sure on fit. I have an original 428 CJ Mach 1 southern car with no rust and wonder if there is any value in going with an NOS piece. Are there fit issues or obvious signs of using a repo piece?

Thx in advance!

First I would look at patching the metal before full replacement

Did someone purposely mount the battery in the trunk of your 428CJ? Cause the only Mustang that should have had a trunk mounted battery would be a 69-70 Boss 429.

For me repro is always the last thing I use, a sign of desparation.  For a car of your description, if it were me I would probably look for NOS or someone parting out a 6 cyl coupe - trunks are the same.

If I remember correct there was one 69 non-Boss 9 with a trunk mounted battery  - but that was it.

Got a chance to throw questions at the Ford data base/files one afternoon. Too bad I wasn't prepared with a long specific list - didn't know I was going to get the once in a life time (well sort of) opportunity ;)

Moving batteries to the trunk was a typical modification - did it on a few of my cars over the years - no these were not restored cars  :o

I relocated the battery to the trunk back in 1989 hoping to redistribute weight. So, now I'm wondering if the trunk floor can be replaced without too much work. I will also be replacing the deck filler panel so I hope that will help in the panel replacement.

Thoughts?...
