Topic: Tie Rod Finish

I have attempted to follow Jeff’s instructions on bluing tie rod ends but would appreciate input before I go any further.

1.     Is the color correct for June 1964 Dearborn or does it need to be darker or lighter?
2.   Is the cap correct or does it need to be lighter or darker?

Allot of differecne IMHO in the tone of the tie rod comparign both pictures  one of the challenges we often speak of when posting pictures over the web


The bottom picture shows the most contrast - with oil and under the car in the dim light I think it would pass any attention.  Cap should look like just new fresh bare steel


I'll post a questions for others here - has any ones seen the stampings on the cap of the tie rods on original Ford tie rods in 65-66 as shown in Alpha1946's example.

Thanks Jeff.  I will lighten the cap somewhat.  Hopefully the numbers on the cap are correct.  I purchased the car in 1976 and put it in storage until the last few years and the linkage has not been changed since I purchased.

Did a little research and the 336-L is an old TRW part number for one of  the 65-66 outer tie rods. Their newer numbering system uses a different number

+1 to Jeffs comments on the trw ends.  other than that they are a very good match to OEM equipment. I was told several years ago they where a supplier to FORD back in the day

Common belief is that Moog and TRW supplied many of the car companies with parts on a annual contract basis - though the parts could differ slightly from factory to parts store sometimes they look very very close.
