Looking for a little help with a leaky brake line
« on: June 04, 2025, 11:45:48 PM »
I just got done installing my complete brake system on my 70 Mustang. All of the flare fittings sealed up perfectly the first time as did all of my flexible lines?except one. It seems that the right flexible lines that goes to the brake piston is leaking. It?s not very much, but if I leave it alone for a couple of hours, I can see a couple of drops of fluid on the floor. Both crush washers are in place and the bolt is definitely tight. I tried breaking it loose and retightening the bolt. That helped some, but didn?t take care of the problem. I was wondering if anyone on here might have a tip, or suggestions. Thanks

Have you tried hitting the head of the bolt then retightening it as this may help to seat the copper washers.

Also check to be sure the bleeder screw is fully seated.

I?m not sure that I understand. You suggest hitting it? On the top of the bolt head?

I would suggest getting 2 new gaskets and annealing them prior to installation. You can anneal the gaskets by placing them on a flat steel surface (like a piece of sheet metal or any flat, fairly smooth steel surface) and heating them with a propane torch. This process will provide a softer gasket which deforms more easily.

Annealing the washers is a good idea. I?m not sure, but I may have found the problem. It seems that the bolt may have been bottoming out before the gaskets were sealed. I took about 0.050? off of the end of the bolt and it seems to be working so far. I put a Kleenex under the bolt. I guess I?ll find out tomorrow whether I got it or not.
