Tilt steering for a 69
« on: February 27, 2014, 12:35:26 PM »
I have a chance to buy a complete tilt setup from a 68 . I have always heard that the 68 and the 69 tilt steering collumns were the same/ interchangable. Is that true?
If there is a difference between them what is it?
And how much is the system worth now days anyway?

Hope you got the rag joint and lower steering shaft, they are different between tilt and non tilt. As I remember the '68 and '69 use different tilt-a-way wiring and vaccum valve. The vaccum valve bracket is different so you may have to make a bracket up. Wiring may have to be modified. I would look at at '68 and '69 tilt wiring diagram and see if the wiring will work. You will also need a vaccum storage cannister that mounts in the right wheel well. A tilt-a-way  vaccum diagram may also help. There is addition info in the 1969 factory service manual. Tilt-a-way is a great option.. Good luck.

I got the rag joint, the vac can and the wiring.
Looking at the replacement parts it shows the turn signal harness as being the same for the 68 and 69 but I believe the connector is different.

I think I may have the vacuum release bracket but need a picture to verify it is a 69.

Not for sale - was used on a project a few years back. Just snapped some pictures so I would have them for times like this - when others are asking to see examples
